The Information Buffet
Knowledge is power.
You’ve heard this and maybe believe it too. I do. But as an entrepreneur, and someone who considers themselves very self-reliant, I also believe these words from Napoleon Hill:
“Knowledge is potential power.”
This really sums up a lot of the overwhelm you might feel around self-development and wellbeing. Consuming information at some point actually detracts from your ability to take the next step. The information buffet gives us so many options. But rather than feel full, we remain hungry for what we seek.
There are enough books, podcasts, articles, and shows to last you three lifetimes. You couldn’t possibly consume all the knowledge that’s out there.
The good news? You don’t need to!
True learning requires experience. Experience comes with action. Your desire for a leaner body, a calmer mind, more energy, more fulfillment, or less stress all require implementation of the information you’ve been gathering.
Fulfillment is found through this cycle of the three C’s: clarity, control, confidence.
Clarity: Identify your goal.
Control: Decide what small action steps you can take daily.
Confidence: Be aware of what’s working! Identify your wins, however small, and ditch judgment when you miss the mark. Build yourself up to take the next step.
Keep repeating this cycle, again and again.
Choose one goal at a time. You might even need to break that goal down into smaller ones that feel possible. Knowledge is plentiful. Implementation is tricky. Hang in there.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Yeah, yeah…you’ve heard it before.
But it was built day-by-day. Take that same approach. Getting in a hurry to meet your goal rarely means you get there. And just like Rome, day-by-day, you build the life/body/relationship/career you want.
Day. By. Day.
