I’m Done With Over and Under
Overlooked.
Overworked.
Over-scheduled.
Unappreciated.
Undervalued.
Underestimated.
Wouldn’t it be nice to get off the rollercoaster? Maybe just hang out somewhere with less exhaustion…
I believe we all get to find our “Goldilocks Zone” - that just right place where we flourish. That magical place looks different for each of us. But our zones do share common ground. And it isn’t what it must include, but what it must exclude.
I love doing things for other people, especially those who bring so much to my life. Think about the last time you got to do something nice for someone…
Maybe it was a surprise, maybe it was taking on some of their load. Whatever it was, I bet it brought a smile to your face.
That’s the place we want to give from. It’s a win-win. We get to access that place when we fill our own cup. We have more to give when we give from a place of overflow rather than depletion.
Think about the last time you did something for someone when you were totally exhausted. Maybe you didn’t feel like you had a choice as you threw a meal together or chauffeured your kids to one more activity. How did you feel? Those moments probably left you feeling resentful, frustrated, and overwhelmed rather than generous.
I’ve been there. And it makes me want to quit it all and walk away. My soul’s cry to be attended to can drowned out the fact that I love my life. And that the work and effort I put in is what deeply connects me to the people I love.
Sacrifice is doable and sometimes necessary. But it’s an act, not a lifestyle. If you are always giving up a piece of yourself, you downgrade your life with resentment and negative thoughts. The things that brought you joy, start to deplete you.
The goal isn’t to stop doing for others, but to start consistently doing for yourself. That’s how you give more, over and over again. Quality not just quantity. Trust me, people can tell the difference.
Start this week:
Make a list of small things you can do for yourself.
Do one of those things daily.
If that feels too hard, start with a few times per week or even once per week. Read for ten minutes, stretch while you watch tv, take ten deep breaths…there are a million simple ways to refuel.
P.S. Members, there’s a video you can watch that deep dives into how you set this up!! Look for the Creating Energy video HERE in your Membership area. (Not a member? Sign up!)
