I don’t want to go!

Age is irrelevant sometimes.

Last week my daughter had her first flute recital. She had practiced and felt so ready right up to the moment she needed to get dressed. Then all of a sudden she didn’t want to go. She wasn’t thrilled about the idea of having a lot of eyes all on her. She told me she would perform at the next one…

It doesn’t matter how old we are, our thoughts follow a similar pattern. We have the same thoughts that cycle on repeat. It takes new information to have new thoughts. But when we let our thoughts keep us stuck, we never get that new information. It’s just a broken record of fear.

This is why Control comes before Confidence in my Constructive Living model (Clarity, Control, Confidence, Curiosity + Creativity). It’s why I placed the C’s in an intentional order.

In each ’C’, you get to practice releasing your unproductive thoughts. Clarity is where you identified your goal. Control is active release of the negative thoughts because you are trusting in your vision. Confidence will come with the new information you retrieve from that action.

As the year wraps up, you might be excited to create a new vision for yourself, set new goals, or tackle something difficult. Keep this in mind as you dream up what’s possible in your life and as you set your target. Don’t let the same information stop you from getting new information.

Fear might be loud right now, but there are others waiting to be heard. Seek out the other voices within: excitement, joy, hope, desire….they are equally a piece of you. They grow stronger only when you listen to them.
