Juicing life
How often do you do things that are fun, but feel like you’re squeezing them into your life?
Do you work right up to the last second and then jump right back into chores or work afterwards?
How often do you think about what you could be doing with your time instead?
Guilty as charged.
I’ve squeezed in hair appointments between errands and school pick-up only to find my initial relaxation turning into impatience, rushing my hairdresser along so I’m not late.
I’ve agreed to movie nights and found myself doing this and that around the house until the very second we hit play. And then found myself jumping up as the credits scroll so I can get everyone back to what needs doing.
Yes, it’s great that you’re taking those breaks and doing that self-care. But, when you do those fun and relaxing things without seeing the value of those acts, you’re simply missing out on the whole experience. Whether it’s watching a movie, getting together with friends, or reading a book, there’s a difference when you give yourself the permission to value your choices - even the fun ones.
The other night my kids went to the neighbors to watch a movie. I did something really unusual for myself - I decided to watch a movie too. As I settled into my bed and arranged the pillows just so, I felt a smile spreading across my face and an elated feeling filling my body. I enjoyed the entire two hours, allowed myself to chat with my kids, and then peacefully go to bed.
It’s moments like this that show me when I squeeze more out of life, I stop feeling like I need to squeeze more in. I felt no guilt. I heard no voices telling me to write, research, or plan. I felt pure joy. And I realized that I don’t do this often enough.
And I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you might not either.
So, how do you give yourself the permission?
✨ Remember this mantra: How I feel matters.
🪷 Let go of the idea that you need to squeeze more in by getting better at squeezing more out of the life you’re living.
💪🏽 Your energetic and emotional state play a foundational role in your life. How you feel changes what you think, say, do, and see. That means your whole sense of reality changes based on this state.
It’s powerful and you’re in the driver’s seat.
Sending love and gratitude xx
