Are you living the life?

Sometimes in life we are lucky enough to get a glimpse into our future. While waiting to pick up my kids last Wednesday, I struck up a conversation with another mother.

She was absolutely giddy when she found out I was a fashion designer in New York (many years ago). You are living the life. She said this to me several times and a feeling of absolute gratefulness washed over me.

We swapped a bit of background and I noticed that at one point we both shared a similar moment but had very different experiences. The decisive moment for each of us boiled down to a conversation with our mothers. Her mother painted a picture of lack and difficulty. My mother painted one of possibility and joy.

I can’t predict whether I would’ve become a fashion designer if my mother hadn’t supported me. But I know that my future self (even my present self) is grateful I made the choice and will never wonder what if.

I share this because I know how often we feel like we should wait until we’re ready, or the time is right, or things are simpler or easier. But the life waits for no one. And rather than see that in a negative light, why not be inspired by it? Let it ignite something within you to take steps to create the life you want today. Regret is not inevitable.

Hindsight might be 20/20, but I know you have more power to influence your life that you might believe.

In case you haven’t stopped to ask yourself lately, what do you want?

More time for yourself and your needs?

Time with someone you love?

Time for your work?

Travel the world?

Summer is almost here and rather than listen to the voices in your head that tell you now is NOT the time. What if you listened to the other voice? The one that tells you:

  • Your kids will only be 9 and 11 this summer.

  • You’re strong and able bodied and now would be a great time to climb Machu Pichu with your husband.

  • A besties girl’s trip is a must because you don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

Gift yourself - today! Take the first step now! No perfect time exists. You’ll be busy, no doubt, for a long time. Create a life that makes space for you.

It’s not easy, but it is that simple. If there’s something that’s sitting on your heart, I invite you to reach out and let me help you navigate the way. You could wait for life to create urgency for you. Or, you can create change from an empowered position.
